I am a Transactional Analysis Counsellor/Psychotherapist and currently in my final year at Metanoia Institute completing an MSc in TA Psychotherapy. I have worked and trained in a variety of mental health settings for several years and have been in private practice for 3 years. I also work in the public sector (NHS), manage a Therapy Centre and organize the London branch of a National Thyroid Charity.
My interest in food, eating disorders and body image commenced when I was young and I trained as a competitive athlete and subsequently worked as a personal trainer and aerobics teacher. I was intrigued with the psychological impact and thwarted view and knowledge my clients had, not only about keeping healthy and fit but also with little regard to the significance of food and nutrition and essentially the relationship this had on their emotional well being.
Latterly I was diagnosed with a thyroid/autoimmune condition and again my interest heightened with the impact this illness was having on my health, weight and well being. This resulted in much research, soul-searching and eventually the setting up of a support group for those going through a similar experience; being unable to control my weight, body size, shape and the emotional instability this combination provoked. I realized it was paramount in my approach to a healthier me to work from the inside out… This journey bought me to psychotherapy and the subsequent training and work I now do.
I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for us to discover and identify the relationship and patterns with food, eating habits, diet, the body and self. Together we can recognize and make the connections, understanding how and why this may affect you in your life. We will challenge your current beliefs and in turn enable you to identify and change them.
Working under the ‘Weightmatters’ banner I would like to help explore your personal journey with you.
