Online Courses – Summer 2020

We have created two low-cost online courses to offer psycho-education, online support and a practical toolkit to help you manage your mental health and wellbeing.

Depression & Low Mood

Anxiety & Worry

The courses cost £75 each, and consist of three 90-minute sessions.

Course Runs – Saturdays 11am to 12.30pm 

This short course is aimed at addressing the experience of disengaging with life around yourself. It addresses your need to first understand what’s happening, and then enables you to take action to break the cycle. 

  • Does engaging with the world feel a little too heavy for you at the moment? 
  • Perhaps you feel unable to motivate yourself to do things. 
  • You may feel lethargic and frustrated. 
  • You may find yourself postponing plans and actions, abandon yourself to unhelpful behaviours and isolate yourself from others. 
  • Your appetite and sleep have changed, but you don’t know how to get out of this unhealthy cycle. 
  • COVID-19 has made your isolation feel even heavier.

Saturday 1st August 

Psychoeducation around depression – acknowledging and understanding low mood. What am I experiencing? Reading my sensations, emotions and thoughts. Why me? We’ll explore the factors contributing to low mood and the factors maintaining it.

Saturday 8th August 

How am I going to make myself feel better? Where do I look? Seeing myself as an agent for change. Depression keeps us wrapped into ourselves. We learn to take these isolating layers away and get more real, closer to what matters to us and what motivates us. 

Saturday 15th August 

Refining knowledge and understanding you have taken from the course. We’ll explore obstacles, redundancies and personal findings. We prepare for the future.


Course Runs – Tuesdays 6pm to 730pm 

This short course explores the issues of anxiety and worrying, so you feel empowered to understand and manage them better in your life. Develop tools to become stronger in your mind and feel more confident in day-2-day life.

  • Are anxiety and worrying a constant issue in your life?
  • Do you feel trapped by thoughts and behaviours that maintain your anxiety?
  • Are your emotions overwhelming, and do you feel out of control?  
  • Has COVID-19 made your anxiety worse?
  • Do you feel scared or uncertain about the future?

Tuesday 4th August

Exploring the different parts of anxiety and worrying. Why me? What do I do wrong? Psycho-education, self-exploratory exercises, examples of how not dealing with anxiety and worrying affects our lives. We’ll use visual maps to help our understanding. 

Tuesday 11th August

We will provide you with a wealth of tools to manage anxiety and worrying. There are going to be lots of experiential exercises to help you learn how to let go of worries; normalising our response, accepting uncertainty, problem solving skills, relaxation. 

Tuesday 18th August

Revision of our learning from the course and future steps. 

We will look at what we have learned from the course, and  how we’ve experienced ourselves trying new approaches to manage anxiety and worrying. We explore how we can adapt our learning so it can become a better fit to meet our needs. Future planning and next steps.

Your Course Facilitator

Andreia Jennings is the Assistant Director of HealthMatters, and has an MA in Existential Psychotherapy. As a psychotherapist she draws upon her existential training to support clients in gaining an understanding of how they experience their life, and how to develop practical tools to help them create positive change.


Confidentiality – this is a private space which needs to be respected. Any personal information disclosed during the course cannot leave this space. 

Private Space – nobody else present in the room during the Zoom session – the use of headphones is advisable to ensure that the conversations cannot be heard. 

No Distractions – from TV, pets, other distracting noises

Good Wifi Connection – stable and safe connection – it is the participants’ responsibility to ensure that their internet connection is stable enough to support the sessions.

Recordings – recording of sessions is not allowed

Cost – Each course consists of 3 x 90-minute Zoom sessions, and costs £75. Payment is taken in advance for the whole course. 

Cancellation Policy – Courses cancelled with more than 7-days notice are refunded in full. There is no refund for courses cancelled with less than 7-days notice.

The HealthMatters Group will reschedule the session/s in the case there technical issues that arise on part of the facilitator, and that prevent the scheduled running of the session.
