A recent study by scientists in Newcastle found that people suffering from type 2 diabetes could be free of the disease by embarking on a 600 calorie a day diet.

After 8 weeks on the diet, patients showed remarkable improvements. Many were able to stop taking their diabetes medication.

The diet appears to get rid of the fat within the pancreas and therefore gets it working much more efficiently. This appears to be very good news. However, the study has not shown what happened when the patients returned to their normal diet regime so more research needs to be carried out.

Clearly, 600 calories is a very restricted diet and should only be undertaken under medical supervision/advice.
