Skipping Breakfast Affects Children’s Memory
“A new study has looked at how skipping breakfast could affect children’s mental performance and the hormonal/metabolic factors that influence this.
Ten obese children completed memory tests before and after eating breakfast. Appetite hormone levels and markers of metabolism were also measured. Tests were then repeated on the same children in a fasted state (mimicking breakfast skipping).
No significant links were found between breakfast skipping and levels of appetite hormones. However, memory and attention spans were lower when children skipped breakfast.”
