NHS Feeling the Pressure
News-flash:
Obese people who need hospital treatment are causing a strain on the NHS, over the past five years the number has risen from 1,800 to around 9,000.
Between 2006 and 2007 there were 1,800 bariatric surgeries performed as a result of obesity, last year this rapidly rose to 8,600.
Not only has the number of people being treated risen but also the number of procedures that the NHS pays for but are carried out by private sector hospitals.
